As we grow older, our skin loses proteins like collagen and elastin that keep it smooth, plump and taut. Environmental factors like sun exposure as well as lifestyle factors like smoking and drinking can deplete these proteins even faster. Over time, the skin becomes loose, wrinkled and saggy.
At the Anti-Aging Clinic of Northwest Florida in Panama City Beach, we offer Plasma IQ to achieve tighter, more youthful skin without any incisions or scars. Common Plasma IQ treatments include nonsurgical eye lifts (nonsurgical blepharoplasty).
Plasma IQ, developed and manufactured by Neauvia™, is an FDA-cleared energy-based device that provides noninvasive skin tightening and rejuvenation. Plasma IQ uses microbeams of plasma to promote skin regeneration and renewal in a safe and effective treatment with minimal downtime.
While most commonly used to treat the eyelids (in what is known as a plasma eye lift), Plasma IQ can also treat many other cosmetic concerns and signs of aging. Plasma IQ can address the following:
The plasma microbeam technology in Plasma IQ delivers targeted energy through an electrode just above the surface of the skin. Using the natural nitrogen gas and the voltage in the air, the Plasma IQ creates a plasma (ionized gas) charge. Ionizing the nitrogen particles creates a plasma arc that goes into the skin and tightens it.
The small arc of electrically charged gas (plasma) from the plasma pen creates micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the body’s healing response, which causes new collagen and elastin to be produced, resulting in firmer, tighter skin.
After your procedure, don’t wash the area treated that day; wait until the following morning to cleanse your skin. For the first two days, we recommend applying petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) to your treated skin throughout the day. You may need to apply the jelly several times to ensure the area is consistently covered during this timeframe. Using petroleum jelly will keep your skin moist and prevent it from drying out, which will help it to heal faster and reduce itchiness and irritation.
Don’t use any physical or chemical exfoliators for at least four weeks. These include products like retinol and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) as well as granular scrubs.
You should also avoid intense exercise, saunas and steam rooms for seven to 10 days, as sweat, heat and steam can increase inflammation as you heal. Unless absolutely necessary, don’t take aspirin or NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen brands like Advil or Motrin). These can increase your risk of bruising.
After your treatment, you will notice small brown scabs that will fall off your skin after about a week. Your skin will continue to heal over the next two weeks.
Over the two to three weeks after your treatment, your skin will gradually become firmer and tighter.
The results of Plasma IQ typically last one to three years. In some cases, results have lasted up to four years.
The Plasma IQ plasma pen has four power levels so we can customize the treatment to your needs for maximum safety. It also provides a highly controlled and targeted plasma charge that doesn’t distribute heat to the surrounding tissue. This means only the targeted tissue is carefully treated, and the other tissue won’t be damaged.
This treatment is not considered painful at all. It can cause mild to moderate discomfort, especially in sensitive treatment areas like around the eyes. If desired, a topical numbing cream can be applied at the beginning of your visit to make your treatment more comfortable.
After treatment, you may experience side effects like tenderness, redness, swelling and scabbing. These are typically very mild and resolve within a few days to a week.
Microneedling uses tiny medical-grade needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, which stimulates a healing response much like the plasma pen treatment does. However, treatment with Plasma IQ is more effective than microneedling because it can target the deeper layers of skin for more significant tightening and rejuvenation of the skin.
Plasma IQ can be combined with a variety of other nonsurgical cosmetic treatments to provide more comprehensive and dramatic skin rejuvenation. Injectable wrinkle relaxers like BOTOX and dermal fillers like Restylane or Sculptra Aesthetic are commonly used with Plasma IQ to address wrinkles and areas of volume loss in the face. Thread lifting with NovaThreads (PDO threads) can also be used with Plasma IQ to lift sagging facial and neck tissues.
Whether you’re interested in a noninvasive eyelid lift, smoothing unwanted wrinkles or reducing scars or lesions, Plasma IQ can help.
